I Need Tention

Katrina was feeling as little jealous that Cynthia had a special sleepover with Grandma Musick. It took me a few negative encounters with Katrina, who is usually very pleasant, to recognize her emotional needs. When Katrina was younger we taught her to say, I need some attention. It came out, "I need tention."

She asked me to cuddle with her at bed time which can be interpreted as "I need tention." So while I layed in the cramped bed we had the following conversation:

Me: You are pretty, inside and outside.
Katrina: And I'm funny.
Me: (laughing) Yes you are funny.
Katrina: I learned that from Daddy
Me: Oh really
Katrina: Yeah, I learned healthiness from you. And you taught me swimming. Do you remember that? Daddy taught me funniness and a little Spanish.

Now we know who the funny ones in the family are. LOL

I recognize the negative finger prints I leave on my kids from anxious parenting (anxious parenting is not pretty) and now I know from Katrina's point of view the things Katrina has learned from me.
It made me think, What did I learn from my parents? A lot! I learned from my Dad to love classical music, flowers, Denmark and chocolate. From my Mom I learned to love learning, books and art or creating.

Liz and Katrina

A lot of you know that breast cancer is a big deal in our family. We have a family of brave Survivors:
My Mom
Aunt Dorothy
Aunt Joan
Grandma Breinholt

The survivors wear pink shirts that identify them. Others had signs on their back identifying the people they have lost or support in their fight against breast cancer. It was ominous to see who was going through or had gone through chemotherapy, portrayed by the length of their hair. Speaking of hair, Liz woke up to a bad hair day. Even the radio announcer spotted her in the crowd, pointing her out for all to see.

There were a lot of fun T-shirt with the following on them:

Of coarse they're fake. The real ones tried to kill me.

Cows Gone Wild

Last week we had a surprise in our back yard. There were about 10 cows chowing down on the lush green grass in the park behind our house. Katrina ran up to one of the cows excited to interact with it, just like the cows at the petting farm. The cow lifted its head and gave her a look that could have killed flies, like "don't even think about it." I'm yelling at her from the back porch like a crazy Mom. And she is standing there having a staring contest with this Mama cow. Katrina finally backed down from the staring contest and came back to safety.
The next morning they were still there in the park and on the Jordan River trail. I was scared somebody was going to get kicked. In Lehi, the police are animal control. A few hours after I called the police, the cows were gone. I don't know how they did it, but they did. Way to go Lehi Police!
